A new era for Oxfordshire’s development
The Government announced the formation of the Oxford Growth Commission at the start of this year with the goal to accelerate sustainable growth and investment across Oxfordshire. More recently, regeneration expert, Neale Coleman CBE, has been appointed as Chair of the Commission.
Not only is the commission a renewed commitment to unlocking Oxfordshire’s local growth potential, it will also support the UK’s wider economic ambitions. Never has it been more pressing to develop housing, support a more resilient economy and build sustainable infrastructure, making the Oxford’s Growth Commission a welcome and timely initiative for the UK.
Neale Coleman’s visionary leadership
Having shaped the legacy of the London 2012 Olympics and overseen development for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, Neale Coleman brings plenty of experience in planning and regeneration. His reputation for driving forward development and infrastructure projects instils confidence in Oxford’s growth agenda.
Objectives of the Oxford Growth Commission
The Oxford Growth Commission has a clear remit to unlock growth, remove development barriers, and improve outcomes for people living and working in Oxfordshire. Its priorities include accelerating the delivery of much-needed housing, improving transport infrastructure and boosting employment.
Central to this vision is the wider Oxford-Cambridge Growth Corridor, which has the potential to deliver up to £78 billion to the UK economy by 2035.
Opportunities for Oxfordshire and the UK
By identifying and unblocking stalled development sites and aligning planning with strategic infrastructure investment, the Commission aims to attract private sector confidence as well as funding. This will open doors for better connected communities, improved employment opportunities and innovation hubs for the region.
For Oxfordshire residents and businesses what the Commission brings is improved transport links, greater access to affordable housing, and a more inclusive and resilient economy. For the UK as a whole, it provides a framework for collaborative, place based growth.
