Matthew has worked within the historic buildings sector for over 15 years.

Formerly a project manager for a restoration and conservation firm in Oxfordshire. Matthew moved into museum management, eventually taking on a historic buildings curatorship for Abingdon Town Council after completing an MSc in the Conservation of Historic Buildings from the World Heritage City of Bath.

Following this, he moved into the construction industry, forming a heritage division and specialising in fire safety in heritage buildings, where he managed projects of £1m+, providing advice to bridge the gaps between conservation law and fire regulations. Previous clients and projects have included the Houses of Parliament, Warwick University, Sevenoaks School, Bibury Manor and Camden City Hall.

Naturally progressing into heritage and conservation planning, Matthew worked on a number of projects across the UK, including Grade I and II* listed buildings, decarbonisation projects, appeals and major residential developments in highly contentious townscape settings. Recently completing an MBA from Henley Business School, Matthew offers an analytical, thorough and client-centric approach to planning, utilising his practical and diverse knowledge of historic buildings and landscapes.

Matthew joined Edgars in 2024, having been impressed by the friendly and professional team and leadership. With a number of major projects in the pipeline, he is looking to continue developing specialisms in enabling adaptive reuse, decarbonisation, fire safety and townscape management.
